If Summer in Idaho Had a Flavor...

...it would be HUCKLEBERRY.

It doesn't matter in what form, to be honest. Ice cream (wish it didn't hurt my tummy!). Lemonade (yes, please!). Saltwater taffy (oh my, yes!). Huckleberry is very likely my favorite flavor. Ever.

Well. Today I went to get a shave ice after work (at the Tiki Hut, which is the best shaved ice shack in all of town, by the by), I was looking through their list of fun combinations, and I noticed huckleberry smooshed in there with cranberry and vanilla. I SAID HUCKLEBERRY!

So. I promptly stopped looking at any other flavors, and I ordered a small huckleberry shave ice with a shot of pink lemonade. (Yum, huh??)

BEST! SHAVE ICE! EVER!
Yeah. The Tiki Hut is where I will get all my shave ice from now on. (I went to SnoGo a couple of weeks ago, because they are in the same location where Tiki Hut was last year. That's the only reason.)

Basically, I've decided that even if there are like 20 people in line at the Tiki Hut ahead of me, the wait will be worth it. How come? Well, let's see...

Reasons I love the Tiki Hut?
-The "snow" is perfectly shaven! I love the texture!
-They have huckleberry flavor. (Obviously)
-They actually listen when someone (silly Gina) says,
"Please only put 1/2 the amount of syrup that you usually use,"
and the ice-to-syrup ratio ends up just lovely and perfect.
-It's not far from where I live.
-Perfect. Summer. Treat.

Instagramin' It

Instagram is a lovely iPod app. Because I love it so much, I take and post pictures there daily.. Maybe y'all need proof, as I've been rotten at posting anywhere near "regularly" on this here blog...

"Cool Facts"

I've got an app on my trusty iPod Touch. An app that I feel quite certain wasn't on my iPod when I bought it brand new a year and a half ago, but I also have no recollection of searching for and downloading in the app store. Weird.

Anyway, this application is called CoolFacts, and I must say, it has provided me with quite a bit of entertainment.

Who needs Angry Birds, anyway? (Read: I did, at one point. It's still here on my trusty iPod, but it's better if I just ignore that app, because it takes away years of my life in one stretch. Do you know what I mean?)

But I digress...

This app is wonderful, because you download it once, and you've got 10,00+ "cool facts" on your device, no internet necessary when you want to peruse said "cool facts." (I'm too cheap to buy an iPhone and pay for the 4G package deal, but that's another story for another time.)

CoolFacts is entertaining for a number of reasons, including but not limited to: the grammar is sometimes ridiculous, some of the facts seems so far-out that you have to Google said information to check its validity (thank heaven for Google, am I right?!), sometimes the wording is a smidge confusing, and...well, time just flies on by when you're slurping up all this knowledge on, say, your lunch break (for example).

Just the other day, I checked out CoolFacts during lunch, and here are a number of gems I deemed worthy of sharing:

According to Wikipedia (gospel truth, right?), it states that the tauatara "are...unusual in having a pronounced
photoreceptive eye dubbed the "third eye", whose current function is a subject of ongoing research,
but is thought to be involved in setting circadian and seasonal cycles."

Any fact regarding rodents (most especially mice and rats), I love.
Not because I like them (ick), but because Jami hates them more than anyone else I know.
So, naturally, I send directly to her iPhone.
Fact.
Here's anexample of CoolFact phrasing that annoys me.
"A freakishly athletic human being, who has no fins or gills, can only swim 4 mph.
Compare that to ridiculously fast fishes, that are, in fact, born swimmers:
they can out-swim the mere human by at least 64 mph."
Frankly, I think swimming one single mile might just kill me.
And I daresay it'd take me much longer than 15 minutes.
Just sayin'.
I wonder if the great state of Idaho saw any of that research money...?
Lucky John Quincy (and Louisa) Adams,eh?
Wow. Just...WOW. Six feet is taller than the average man, did you know?
That's a long drop, that's all I'm saying.
This is actually true! How appropriate is that?!
I didn't even bother to check if this was true.
Bachelors have three chances of me calling them MASTER,
and they are: slim, fat, and none.
Every time I read this, I can't help but imagine a human being
actually making the trek through a blue whale's aorta.
And it freaks me out a bit.
Anyway, if you haven't already downloaded the CoolFacts app, it's something to consider....

Jami likes this app, too. This picture was taken yesterday
while she was waiting for a client to come.

You're welcome, I guess...

Happy Summer Solstice!

it's the very first day of summmer, you know,
and the weather is lovely in idaho!
yesterday, 'twas rather coolish with wind
(which whipped my hair 'round, to my chagrin).
but today (joy of joys!), was both pleasant and sweet;
a day like this would be difficult to beat!
now bring on the barbecues, softball and hikes...
the bonfires, fresh fruit, and riding of bikes!
breathe it in, taste it! can you feel it? i can!
it's summertime, baby! the best time in the land!

on my drive home from the prepared pantry after work.
it. smelled. FANTASTIC!
also on my drive home. ahhhh, look at the colors!
how do you like my little ditty of a poem up there?
that was completely unplanned.
(yeah, that's probably not hard to believe;
it's hardly shakespeare or anything...
but still. not bad for something off the cuff?)

i've got a major hankering for watermelon.
and frozen yogurt creamies!
and a fun little trip to southern utah with my mama!
(that's really happening, by the way. in, like, two weeks!)

i realize that june is 2/3 over, and this is only my second post...
but i'm kind of okay with that (and kind of not?).
here's to going out and making the very most of life!

HAPPY SUMMER TO YOU ALL!

yum.

I just had a cancellation, which gave me time to run to the SnoGo for a snow cone. Because the weather is warm enough to warrant a snow cone, friends!

it's pink lemon sour mixed with black raspberry.
i asked for 2/3 the amount of syrup they usually put, 'cause i like it a bit icy at the bottom
but it was still juicy. maybe next time i'll ask for 1/2 the syrup?

I like snow cones in the summer. And I LOVE the snow cones from SnoGo. Mmm-mm!
