time marches forward...

...and this is what i've been up to in the last week or so:

I read this book. It was pretty good. That NieNie is an amazing lady.
I've participated in a Cameron/Tracie Olympic Games.
They've been ridiculous but fun. Plus, I won a silver in the Biathlon with my teammates, KJ and Adam.
...and these games culminated in a peanut-buttery kiss from Cam.
All in the name of getting peanut butter on MY face.
Valentine's Day happened. With nothing to report.

I made a pork and veggie soup. It's taken me days to eat, and I've loved every bite.
Whilst making said soup, I misplaced my thyme...
I also made some apple cinnamon quinoa for breakfast sometime. Maybe it was Saturday...

Also, Brooker came to town for the weekend, and we played in Jackson Hole for a bit. I like Jackson Hole, and I loved visiting with Brooke one-on-one for a good portion of the day.

It must be said, though: hanging out with her in a cute resort town full of fun little shops can be a dangerous thing. Because she is a supportive friend, I suppose; if she sees you eyeing a certain book or huckleberry treat or a neat book-turned-journal thingy...she'll be like, "Oh, look at that! That's so great and wonderful for all these reasons! Don't put it down, it looks good in your hands! Oh, MY! Buy it. BUY IT ALL!"

I mean, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't have the money for it, but you catch my drift, right? (Love ya, Brooker!)

The drive to Jackson was beautiful! And the camera on my phone was slow to click...
Here we are in the candy shop. We smile, because we like candy. Doi.
When we told Allyson we saw a moose, she (of course) asked for a picture, but we were too late.
So instead, we took a picture of horses, just to see if she'd notice the difference.
She did, by the way. She's a smart one...
Isn't Swan Valley lovely?
When we got back to town, we met up with Carl at The Thai Kitchen for some dinner.
It was delicious.

So. That's what I've been up to the past week-ish.

Golly, my life is exciting.

in the meantime...

Hey, all. I've been keeping myself busy, when time permits, on my dining room set. (I bought one I found through Craigslist, but Jami and JR went with me. For protection. And also, JR has a truck.)

Jami is ridiculously talented at almost every single thing in the world, including but not limited to domestic things. (Cooking, baking, sewing, general-crafting, etc.). One thing she's completely rad at is refinishing furniture. So she's been helping me turn my newly purchased dining room set into something from a dream. And it's been fun!

I've been wanting to blog about it, but not until it's completely finished, you know? We're making progress, and I've put a few pictures on Instagram, for those who've wanted to see progress. But I'm not going to show the before and after on here until it's done and sitting in my dining room.

So. In the meantime...here are a few things I've been up to: *
*Hint: not much

I made a creamy chicken and garden soup that lasted me for days. It was delicious.

I discovered a Ziplock bagful of these little gems (from last February, I'm guessing) at work...
...only to be bummed to remember they're hugs and not kisses.
I'm not crazy about white chocolate, you see.
I celebrated Chinese New Year with my friend Katie and her family
and was totally  happy with the fortune from my cookie!
Found out I've got a wonky thumbnail problem.
More on that later. Maybe.
I've learned a LOT while refinishing my table.
For example: primer doesn't easily wash off human skin.
I may or may not have finished watching season four of Downton Abbey
within a few days. (I totally did. And I loved it.)

I'm going to do some more work on the table tomorrow evening with Jami. I think we've only got two more sessions left until we're completely done. Woohoo!

Also, I'm heading to Brigham City this weekend to chillax with my family. Just for fun, and because I miss them. I can hardly wait...

picture dump

It's already May 8th (almost the 9th!), and I have yet to post on here. I do not love it when I ignore my blog for more than a week...

Alas...

Life is busy.

And I've been feeling kind of down lately, so that's another (really good!) reason not to post.-But it hasn't been so bad that I've forgotten all my blessings. (I just sometimes need to remember to focus on the thousands of blessings that I do have and not give too much thought to the blessings I seem to be missing out on. Those are words of wisdom, people. My mama is one smart lady.)

I went home last weekend, and I took a handful of really cute pictures of my nieces and nephews (I got to see all of them!)...but that post will come later.

In the meantime, here's my life as seen through my Instagram photo-a-day challenge:

You're welcome, I suppose, for giving you something to look at, especially as I disappear from civilization for a few days. (I'm totally heading to Moab Thursday through Saturday! I'm excited, if not a bit apprehensive, for the biking...)

Over and out (for now).

Nothing to Say...

I want to do a real blog post, but I won't be getting around to that tonight.

Life has been busy lately. Busy enough that I was kind of dreading this entire workweek. But! My busy week (both at work and afterward) has been fantastic. Busy is good! And once the workday is over tomorrow (at 7pm--yikes), the weekend will be here, and my week will feel considerably less busy (although I've still got a list of things to do, especially on Friday).

Anyway, I noticed that I hadn't posted anything on the ol' blog in over a week, so I'm kinda "phoning it in" today (and posting some Instagram pictures).

"delicious"
whole wheat tortilla, cream cheese, strawberries, almonds
"key"
i totally wish the "accio keys" spell worked for muggles...

"younger me"
wow, look at the fat bracelets up and down my arms and legs.
yeah. i was a cute, fat one-year-old.
"sunglasses"
pretty self-explanatory...
PS I am NOT excited that Mr. Facebook (whatever his name is) bought Instagram. I'm half tempted to just get rid of the app in revolt...but the other half of me really wants to see how badly he changes it. (For right now, he's making no changes...but he'll change it before too long, and I can't help but think that those changes won't be for the good; I have this gut feeling that there'll be all sorts of advertising and spam on what has been a really terrific spam-free app. Bah!)

Hello, "New Year"

I'm not quite sure how two weeks have gone by without a single post.

Apparently I have nothing to say?

That's so unlike me...

Honestly, nothing much has happened in my life, and I hate posting boring stuff. (I guess that's not stopping me from posting today though. Huh...)

It's been a very...snow-free winter. Some days, it's even been downright springish. (Hello, upper 40-degree-weather! What are you doing here in January?) Other days it's been...ah...downright frigid. (Yesterday morning, it was 2* when I drove to work. Ouch, huh?)

Wow. I've resorted to talking about the weather. (Think, Gina. THINK!)

I've been doing pretty well on my 2012 resolutions. (That's something!) They are as follows:

1. Find the positive in every situation. (This one will be a work in progress throughout my entire life, I feel quite certain. But! There have been a few times where I could've griped openly, and I just removed myself from the situation and kept my mouth shut! That's progress, people!)
2. Be aware of those around you and mindful of their needs: serve with a smile. (This one kind of goes hand-in-hand with resolution #1, and I'm really trying.)
3. Drink! More! Water!
4. Fruits and veggies EVERY DAY. (The veggies are easy, but I'm picky when it comes to fruit. Especially since it's winter and lots of the good stuff isn't in season.)
5. DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY. (I am DETERMINED to keep up on this one!)

Also, this year I'm participating in a photo-a-day challenge on Instagram. It's been fun, I must say. (I kind of love Instagram; it's my favorite app on my iPod touch.) I'm kind of hopeful that this #photoaday challenge will go beyond January...?

This one was from January 10, and the theme of the day was CHILDHOOD
That's me with the squinty, goofy little smile.
Mom says I smiled like that for about a week--just in time for family pictures.
She only ordered one picture. And gave it to me.
January 12: CLOSE-UP [of one of my favorite scarves. i love scarves...]
Aren't you so glad I posted today?

Tell you what. Next post will be better?

Yes.

I Really Should Drink More Water...

Holy crap, it's been a long workweek. Which is interesting, because work has been slow. What is it with all these cancellations and no-shows? I mean, really!

I did have an interesting something happen at work this week...but I think publishing it on my blog might breech HIPAA. Which is too bad, 'cause it's a funny story. (Well it is now; it sure wasn't while it was happening...)

In other news, I gave blood today; it's something I do pretty much every 8 weeks (as long as my blood has enough iron, of course; going in to donate blood and then being cast away because one's blood is "iron-poor" is a slap in the face! Why don't you just go ahead and call me anemic or something! Sheesh...) Anyway; today my iron count was perfect (I win!). While I was in the process of donating, the guy next to me very nearly passed out, for real. He got sweaty and light-headed, and he was getting all sorts of attention from the American Red Cross staff. (Poor guy; he was so embarrassed. Apparently a granola bar doesn't qualify as "breakfast" in the "man-world.") I told him to milk the situation as much as he could, in an endearing sort of way. I think he loved me before I left.

After giving the gift of life, I ran some errands (including, but not limited to, paying the sponsorship fee for coed softball--can't wait!). It was about an hour later that I started feeling light-headed and woozy. So I made my way home and took a two-hour nap. (Hmm...usually, giving blood doesn't take it out of me like that. Curious...)

I did make some amazing chocolate cinnamon cookies the other day...

These bad boys are my favorite cookie.
And as Brooke said, "That's really saying something!"
(Thanks for the recipe, Jamie G!)

Oh geez, this post is boring.

This is me being frustrated

You wouldn't think it was boring if I told you what happened at work this past week...

Scattered Thoughts in the Middle of Winter

Thoughts I've thunk this past week:

*I've been talking myself out of eating unhealthy snacks. Sometimes my willpower wins; other times my cravings do. (My willpower, when it comes to snacky-snacks this week, is mediocre at best. Humbug!)

*I've been making myself work out more than usual this past week. (Very likely because my dumb old willpower is all willy-nilly.) Praise me! I got up early to lift yesterday morning. And I worked hard enough that I'm rather sore today! Then I went to Zumba last night where I burned what felt like one zillion calories. I sweated buckets--likely because I'm not particularly watching my carbs. I love carbs. I daresay "carbs" is my favorite food.

*I've been thinking, of late, how it would be neat to have a husband, and the reasons are twofold. (Honestly, there are a lot of reasons marriage would be stellar, but these are the two reasons that got me wishing for one this week.) 1) I could think about having babies. (There. I said it. On the interweb, for all the world to read. Gah!) 2) We've gotten lots of snow this past week, and it seems like men are naturally good at shoveling snow. (I'm not wrong, am I?)

*I've been reading Mockingjay, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I read the first two (The Hunger Games and Catching Fire) in five days. Total. (I feel quite certain that President Snow is among the wickedest characters ever written, you know? He's bad news!) I'm roughly half-way through and will likely finish it this weekend.

*Lately I've been wondering about the size of my bladder. I estimate it to be perhaps the size of a walnut? (This next part is going to seem really off-topic, but hold tight; it all ties together in the end, I assure you.) Things get uncomfortable at work. For a handful of silly reasons, we moved out of our awesome building about 18 months ago and landed in...another building to pass the time. It's great, in that it has provided us a place to work with our clients...but I do not love said building, for a handful of silly reasons. And also because the bathrooms there are yucko. I avoid the restrooms at work if at all possible...which is why I've considered bladder-size of late; because these days, it seems, I've had to use the facilities at least once a day. We move back to OUR BUILDING (our lovely, glorious building!) in just over a week. My bladder and I are thrilled--for a handful of silly reasons. (TMI? Deepest apologies.)

*I've been watching LOST on DVD with the Brookes in my life. We're in season 4--and it seems that there's quite a bit I had forgotten since finishing off season 3 several months ago. But then I watched this clip and felt pretty up-to-speed. As I've been watching, I've thought (a number of times) that LOST is a terrific name for this show, because it doesn't answer questions so much as present new questions. Also, every time Jack's face appears onscreen, I think (aloud), "I want to make out with him." (Something about his rugged good looks?) Also! I've said it from the beginning when I started with season 1 sometime last year: There's not NEARLY enough hugging on that island! Of what I speak is true!

*Over the course of the past few weeks, I've pondered the awesomeness of gloves. It's no secret that I have crappy circulation and gloves/mittens are stellar little accessories. They warm up my fingers enough that frostbite & amputation aren't a real threat! (It's just too bad I've only remembered to grab a pair of gloves thrice in the past few weeks...)

*I'm still lovin' the Cheerios. Particularly the Cinnamon Burst, but also indulging in Chocolate Cheerios when the mood strikes.

It might be an obsession with me...

Over and out.

D is for DREAM ON...

I love my life. Seriously, it's a good one.

BUT...I want to go away. Somewhere warm by the water. With a hammock in the trees.

Yeah...this looks about right.

This week has been a good one, for the most part. But lately I feel like I'm running on empty, and sometimes little things make me feel like this:

You know the feeling...

You know this one too...

Aaaand this one...

I can't help but think a nice warm get-away would help solve my little problem.

And that's why the title of this post is "dream on..." {frown/smile}

Princess?

I'm copying my friend DeeAura. (Except obviously I didn't copy her answers; she is Jasmine.)

You Are Pocahantas!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Free-spirited and wise. You have a strong passionate spirit that touches and changes all who know you. The wisdom and common sense that you have is really what guides you through life. Even so, you also have a very playful side that loves adventure and excitement.

Which Disney Princess Are You?

Umm...so I don't really do the "princess" thing. At all. I guess Pocahontas isn't really a princess either. Not like Cinderella, Belle, or Ariel. (What other princesses are there?) Anyway...I was kind of annoyed that this little questionnaire placed me as Pocahontas; I hate that show. But the description is fairly accurate...

Thanksgiving in February...

Nope, I didn't prepare some gigantic feast to celebrate all the abundant blessings in my life. In fact, I've been a bit of a "Debbie Downer" or "Negative Nancy" as of late. Folks, I have caught that dreaded disease they call Influenza. Okay, disease isn't the right word. At all. But I surely did NOT feel well. However, when I was "down and out" there were a number of things (and/or people) that I am incredibly grateful for. Here goes (in no particular order):

*My momma (this really is #1!) I called her for sympathy, and she gave it to me!
*Memory foam/my beddy-bye. Wow, it's like sleeping on a cloud!
=>Under this "category" I must say I'm grateful for my own room!
*Canned soup. Can we say Campbell's? Mm-mm GOOD!
*A variety of juices to keep me hydrated. Out with the bad, in with the good.
*Lisa and Brooke. They sympathized and watched out for me and made me see the dr.
*The doctor. He gave me medicine and bed rest. (Hooray for hydrocodone cough syrup!)
*Puffs PLUS Lotion. (It really does make a difference!)
*Reading materials. When I wasn't knocked out on meds, reading helped to pass the time.
*Sweats/comfy clothing.
*My loverly humidifier.
*The Priesthood and my hometeachers for giving me a blessing on Monday night!
*Clean Flicks. Friday and Saturday I watched "Old School" and "Road to Perdition," both quite different, but both excellent. But both rated R. Sad. However, Clean Flicks takes care of that for me; great plots, minus the nastiness that makes it rated R. Tonight, me and the roommates are gonna watch "3:10 to Yuma."

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. But looky here, I have tons to be grateful for, even when I'm on my sickbed! God Bless America!
