the rest of the trip went like this

Remember how I went to Moab just over a week ago? And how all the girls got dragged up a canyon wall with a rope, etc., during the Friday portion of said Moab trip?

Well, the rest of the trip went like this...

Jeff and Kelsey went biking and did their own thing all the livelong day, and the rest of us went off-roading in the Canyonlands. In Cameron's Amigo.

So many great memories in this little jeep...

Cameron, bless his heart, made sure that we had extra food that was easy to get to, and he even brought a couple of electric blankets that could be plugged into his Amigo. All because of that fateful Moab trip six years ago this very month when Cameron learned about the trifecta. Firsthand. (All these years later, and he still gets nervous about the fateful events of that day. "I really did a number on him!")

A special thanks to Tracie, too, who took all most of the pictures I've posted re: the latest Moab trip. In no particular order:

the brown-eyed girls! Tracie, Gina, Jeanna

We had the top down on the Amigo, and Tracie pretty much just did the "point and click"
thing throughout the drive and got some truly beautiful shots.
Here we see Tracie lovin' on Cam.
You can tell he's really enjoying the affection.
Cam jumping on Musselman Arch
Pretty sure this was from the day before, but with the same
"point and click" technique. Tracie's good at what she does!
"Nice butte!"
Me and Brookie. This was lunchtime at Musselman Arch, I believe...

Tracie called this "ugly."

*deep and contented sigh*
It's like we think we belong on the cover of an album or something...

FIRE IN THE SKY!
I actually took this picture.
I love the glow in this shot.
Tracie said this was pretty. I agree with her on this one.
I took this one, too. Lucky shot.
Peaking over the edge. It was scary!

The actual sunset at Island in the Sky
I look like a giant here. No big deal.
Utah really has lovely sunsets.
Goodbye, sun!
Cameron, I feel like I didn't appreciate this view like I should have six years ago.
 Yeah, Moab really is alright...

Turn Up the Christmas Music!

I woke up to freshly fallen snow this morning and I wasn't even upset about it. Not only that, but it kind of made me smile!

It's quite pretty...
Does this mean I'm growing up, or "maturing"?

Or is this a side effect of having "learned" to snowboard last winter?

Probably the latter.

Either way, I'm smiling that I'm smiling over the snow. Woohoo!

Now excuse me while I find my Christmas playlist on iTunes, and make myself a mug of hot cocoa...

moab is magical, as it turns out

I went to Moab this past weekend. Left Thursday afternoon, and got back today right around noon. I titled this trip on my iPhone calendar as "Moab: The Last Chance," because of the history I have with that silly place. I went on this trip a bit nervous and full of trepidation, but also hopeful.

Looks like third time's a charm, because this trip to Moab was exactly what I needed it to be; I got out of dodge with friends, and had lots of good times and laughs throughout the entire weekend.

Moab isn't so bad after all...

Highlights:
-Pronouncing it "Mobe"
-Sharing a bathroom at the condo with the crew, but Jeanna
timing her potty breaks just wrong every single time
-Staying up late talking and giggling girlishly
-The woman at the grocery store shaming and embarrassing us. #NotThatOld
-The ranger comparing us to elephants
-Cameron singing "Brown Eyed Girls" to me, Jeanna and Tracie
-The "500 Miles" singalong and totally owning it
-Being hoisted up a canyon crevice wall by Jeff and Cameron
-Cameron and Jeanna being navel-to-navel
-Tracie and Cameron getting Facebook engaged
-Singing "Come Sail Away" and "Living on a Prayer"
at the top of our lungs, for all of Arches National Park to enjoy
-Meeting a professional photographer at the Delicate Arch at night
who was gracious enough to take our pictures
(Thanks a million, Peter Shinyeda!)
-Guessing every musical artist on the MP3 player as the Beastie Boys
-Tracie realizing that her Facebook engagement to Cameron
might be in jeopardy
-Pajama party in the queen bed with Cam
-Massage train
-Captain and Mrs. Pot Stirrer
-"Solid human waste"
-The song murderer(s)

Favorite one-liners:
"For Peta's sake!"
"That was before Tracie declared Cameron's undying love for her."
"So much for not swearing on this trip."
"Jeff is a ninjaneer!"
"My armpits are on fire!"
"We should've set a jello salad this morning!"
"This whole trip is PG-13!"
"I did not bring enough underwear for that."
"Is there a pickle over there?"
"What the aych?!"
"I really did a number on him."
"Party in the bed!" *weird noises* *laughter*
"Have we got any Michael McLean?"
"You've gotta be careful with the tongue."
"I'm glad we're not in a horse and buggy this morning."

We'd planned to hike to the Delicate Arch Thursday evening, but we got into Moab a bit later than initially anticipated; instead, we went to our rental (condo) to drop our stuff off, then went to the grocery store. While we were there, Tracie talked to a lady (because she loves talking to strangers), and the gal asked us if we were in town for the race. We asked her what she was talking about, and she looked at us like we were from outer space or something and said, "You're kidding, right??" We assured her that we did not, in fact, have any idea what she was talking about. She told us that it was the high school state mountain biking race, dummies. Then she said, "Well, you look like you could be the parents of high schoolers." Thanks for that slap in the face, lady. Thanks a lot.

But I digress...

After leaving the grocery store feeling rather older than when we entered, we headed back to the condo and visited for a bit, then hit the hay.

On Friday, we hiked Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. Jeff had explored Fiery Furnace a couple of times before and was offended at the very thought of us paying extra for a ranger-guided tour, so we watched a video and got our permits and followed Jeff into the rocky wilderness.

hiking in...
Isn't Kelsey darling?
Let me start off by saying that Jeff is a great fellow; he's smart, athletic, an excellent cook, and fun to be around. Also, he is adventurous. Very, very adventurous. And very agile and capable. And adventurous. His idea of fun doesn't always line up with everybody else's ideas of fun. Or safe. He wanted to show us a particular arch in the park, and he showed us the way. Straight up between slots in giant rock canyons, and a few of us might have been...ah...nervous to take part in this climbing adventure.

This is where we coined the term "ninjaneer."

Honestly, watching Jeff climb up there was kind of horrifying and I think we were all praying he'd make it to the top safely. Once he made it to the top, we got a bit worried about how, exactly, we were supposed to follow Jeff up, because there was no safe way for him to get down, and he was our guide.

Like I said, though, Jeff is smart (he's an engineer by day), and he rigged a couple of ropes to some rocks and he helped the rest of us get there. Cameron climbed up with a single rope, then he and Jeff dropped a couple of ropes down and hoisted us up.

I volunteered to be the last one up, because I very seriously thought I might vomit on my way up. (I get a nervous tummy sometimes.)

Tracie made it look easy...
My turn. Of course they had to record it on video...

As scared as I was about the whole ordeal beforehand, it ended up being a lot of fun.

After a bit more hiking, Jeff and Kelsey went off on their own in search of Jeff's beloved arch, and the rest of us looked for a way down. (Cameron had a GPS.)

Jeanna and I were elated to still be alive after that ridiculous ascent.
And here's a shout-out to Cameron's giant muscles for making that possible.

Cameron, Brooke and me
Tracie coined this "The Tree of Life."
Isn't it lovely?
The slotted parts of Fiery Furnace were pretty darn cool.
After making it back to the Amigo, we went to see Mirror Arches, then back to town for burgers (grilled to perfection by Jeff), then we did a night hike to the Delicate Arch.

Best. Picture. Ever. Thanks again, Peter!
You are too kind and generous!

I'll post more pictures and stories from Moab soon, because there's a whole other day as yet unaccounted for. In the meantime, thanks to the crew for inviting me along on such a fantastic trip!

frozen toes and fingers, too

It's happening, folks. Fall is giving way to winter. I'm not ready to say goodbye to autumn just yet, but what can a girl do, who, by choice, lives in south-east Idaho? We have four seasons here, but some of them are short-lived, and the length of each season varies (sometimes tremendously) from year to year.

I saw my first snowflakes Monday evening as I was driving to my friend Jeanna's house. And although I won't fully feel ready for snow until after Thanksgiving, I have to appreciate that the snow held off until November. So. Thank you, Idaho.

My folks woke up to a few inches in Brigham City Monday morning. Although the snow hasn't stuck yet here in Idaho Falls, it still feels very wint'ry, and the reasons are twofold:

1) Daylight Savings ended early Sunday morning. I love me that extra hour of sleep, I really do, but it hurts my soul that darkness comes so early these days. I get out of work at around 5:45 most nights, and there is no sunlight left by that point. It makes most people me want to go home and stay there for the remainder of the night, snuggled up in my jammies with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book. But stuff still happens in the evening; just because it looks and feels like midnight does not make it so. Therefore, I must be strong and not switch into pajamas, and I must try to be social when things are going on. Daylight Spending, you wicked thing!

hello darkness my old "friend"

2) It's cold. I wake up to below-freezing temperatures (anywhere between 20-30 F), and with windchill, my Weather Channel app tells me, "Hey, Gina, it's 22* outside right now, but it actually feels like 15*." And it's only November 6th...

Regardless of the cold, though, my favorite holidays are right around the corner! I've been looking forward to Thanksgiving Week since August, I do believe. I'll be spending the entire week of Thanksgiving down in Utah with my family, as has become tradition. An entire week of family. And cooking. And watching a chick-flick or two with my momma. And seeing all of my nieces and nephews. And playing games. And eating delicious homemade goodness. And listening to Christmas music. (I may or may not have listened to Mannheim Steamroller Christmas on Pandora a couple of times since Sunday. Judge not.)

they make my heart so, so happy

Then it's back to Idaho Falls and work, blink, then suddenly back to Utah to spend another awesome week with the fam. (I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping; I've never been so far ahead on this front before.)

Ah, early wintertime holidays, I love you

halloween happened...

...and I actually dressed up.

I used to get mildly excited about dressing up for Halloween; my first Halloween working in the pediatric therapy clinic (where I still work), I dressed up as the Cat in the Hat. I had fun dressing up, and my clients all thought my costume was pretty rad.

I'm a pretty big fan of Mr. Dr. Seuss, so I had this terrific idea to dress up as a Sneetch the following Halloween. I planned it out for a long time, and I felt pretty good about myself as I walked out of my apartment that fateful Halloween morning (2008). My world was figuratively shattered that day; approximately five people knew what I was supposed to be, even after I said, "I'm a sneetch." Ugh. Badly done, city of Idaho Falls. Badly. Done.

Anyway...I decided to get into the spirit of things this year, and I dressed up as (Nymphadora) Tonks from the Harry Potter books. I love her character, plus I already had the bulk of the costume in my wardrobe already, so win/win.

I'm an auror, don't you know.

When I walked into work last Thursday, I was nervous, because none of the other therapists I saw on my way in had dressed up. Then a fellow SLP, Matt, looked at my costume and asked me if I was supposed to be Katy Perry.

Humbug, Matt! No, I'm not Katy Perry! She's talented, I'm sure, and quite pretty, I know, but I wasn't dressed as her. (Quite honestly, I was wearing far too much clothing for a Katy Perry costume.) I got annoyed, but mostly laughed.

Changed my wig, because Tonks can totally change her appearance at will.
I stayed in the pink wig for the majority of the remainder of the day, so as to avoid the Katy Perry misunderstanding.

Full-body shot. Tonks dresses kinda punk-ish.

On the evening of Halloween, I chilled with some friends at Jen's house where we ate pizza and watched Ghost Busters. 'Twas a fun evening, I must say...

The group (minus Jeremy and Brooke)
Jeanna  the BYU fan, me (wearing a bunny nose, because Tonks can do that), Dr. Willie,
Officer Tracie, Mulan (Jen), and KJ the witch (who scared the crap out of trick-or-treaters)
I hope y'all had a safe and happy Halloween!

At present, I'm counting down until my Moab trip (3 days, minus some hours).
