I've set some New Years Resolutions that I intend to keep. One of my resolutions is to try new foods. I really enjoy the foods I know and love...and sometimes get scared to try new things. (Not that I'm a complete chicken or anything. I've tried authentic food from East Africa, Cambodia, the Philippines, Japan, etc. Sometimes it was tasty, sometimes...not.)
Anyway...I have been called a "picky eater" in my life. I don't think this is entirely true; I like a lot of different foods. But the list of foods I don't like isn't exactly...short.
Ergo...I'm going to be brave and try some new foods this year. My list so far includes (but is not limited to):
mango-i had a bad one once.i need to give it another go.
crab-to be honest, i'm kind of
nervous about trying crab. also,
this picture makes me think
of sebastian.
eaten it before, but had a
pretty bad experience. i'm
brave to consider it again.

indian food-i lived with
an indian girl for a semester,
and the potent stench of
curry frightened me.
Anyway, I've got some other "foods to try" written down; I've made a list. But I need at least one more idea. So I'm asking y'all for your input. What shall I try in 2009? I have the power of veto, but I'd like some ideas. Please?

If you try crab, please try to make a concerted effort to make it up to Alaska for the crab. No offense, but I don't think crab is very plentiful in Bountiful.
It also puts a smile on my face that the 'new' foods you're thinking of trying are fruit. I'm not entirely sure why that strikes me as funny, but most assuredly you are not a picky eater, if you are going to bravely try FRUIT.
Heres a good one its actually very deilicious...artichokes. Cook them, then dip the leaves in melted butter and then you eat the heart, dipped in butter as well...yum:)
You don't like pomegranates? That's a staple in the house during the holidays. My grandpa grew a pomegranate tree in Vegas. We eat pomegranate salad for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is SO good!
Hmm...some foods to try. I would say bananas but I hear that you hate them. What about mushrooms? Those are good!
Sushi is AWESOME. But since you are too wussy to even think about it, how about shrimp? If crab isn't too fishy for you, shrimp is even less so. And it's got almost zero fat as long as it's not fried. I learned to like pickles in 2008 on sheer willpower, so I know you can do it if your mind is strong.
the indian food is a good idea, but the closest one is in pocatello and i haven't tried it yet to see if its any good. i'd say you might try some foods with mushy/slimy textures since i'm sure that's at least half the reason you don't like bananas...
Ooh, I LOVE pomegrante! I have to agree with Bob about the crab- at least go as far as Seattle. Crab has to be cooked JUST RIGHT for it to be delish. I have to agree with your Sebastian comment. I don't like to eat crab if I have to crack open the little claws myself.
Artichoke was a grand idea- I have been meaning to try some, too.
Sushi doesn't have to be raw- that may be a good start. It doesn't have to be fishy, either. Try to Google it and see what your options are...
Bananas? Just kidding, I know better. I think you have some pretty ligit ones. Have you tryed sour crout on hot dogs?
Indian Food... one of my favorites actually... not all of it has curry in it...or at least too much. But a lot does have Mango which is fabulous. If nothing else you must make it to a "Bombay House" there is one in SLC or Provo and try their Sweet Lassi, or Rose Milk. worth the Drive, besides if you are that close we have to get together and I can hellp you pick the right intro dishes to loving Indian food. :)
bananas that are COLD are the best and only way to eat them. I hated bananas before and I tried it once refridgerated and fell in love with it! That is not my suggestion though, haha Beets, I can't stand them, but others might love them! haha :)
I love pomegranates. Have you tried star fruit? It's gross, but you should try it and decide for yourself! Have you tried hummus? It's my favorite. I love it. Also, I love indian food. Some of it is a little bit weird. I am the pickiest eater ever. I promise I am worse than you. Ha ha! Hmmm...how about blazin bufflo wings from buffalo wild wings? Ha ha. Just kidding. Don't try those. They will burn your mouth way bad. I love frozen grapes...ok I know that's not stepping out of your comfort zone, but those are good, too. I don't know what else to say!! Try some really different kinds of cheeses...there are some weird ones that are delish!
