grits...

Technically, grits wasn't on my list of foods to try this year. Not that I've been "anti" or anything...I've just never really had the opportunity to try it. And, quite frankly, it's never crossed my mind. It's not like I'm from Down South (or even visited Down South).

Anyway, I went to dinner with some of my family yesterday. We went to the Cracker Barrel in Layton, and the opportunity to try grits presented itself. So I plunged a spoon into the colorless, soupy-type mixture and took a bite.

About to partake...

Overall, it's not a bad food. I mean, I had more than one spoonful. There's just not a lot of flavor, and the gritty stuff got stuck on the back of my tongue a couple of times. After a few bites, Aaron told me to try it with the tasty baked apples he got with his meal, and this actually helped. A lot.

I'm not saying it's a nasty food, though. I think I could enjoy it more with, like, LOTS of brown sugar.

Alas...I think I'll stick with Cream of Wheat.

I love grits. But I also LOVE cream of wheat. I like grits more salty and cream of wheat more sugary - however, never really tried grits with sugar. I'll put that on my "to do" list.

Love the simplicity of your blog! Seriously. I might have to copy you. Do you know the size of your header?

Bravo! It looks disgusting! Hey, whats the difference b/n grits and cream of wheat anyway? We had to eat mush at my house for breakfast. Is that the same as cream of wheat? Either way I hated it!

Stronger woman than me! I can't handle the texture.

isn't it corn meal and something else to make it gluey? I don't blame you, but way to go for trying it!

grits also goes better if you put in a pat of real butter (melty on top) and brown sugar or molasses. my friend from south carolina thinks this is disgusting and says that the only true way to eat grits is with butter and salt. whatever. i like it sweet. it also helps if a grandma makes it instead of a restaurant ;)

So, last time I was in Myrtle Beach I tried the grits...not my favorite. Last night at dinner, I tried the clams....weird, weird, weird texture but okay taste- as long as I put enough cocktail sauce on it. I challenge you to try them- if you get to the coast this year. You can do it! ;-)

I love grits. They are good if you mix eggs, cheese, and bacon in with them! Sounds weird, but it's good. Oh, yeah, and toasted oatmeal is way better then cream of wheat.

I think that I tried them once at Cracker Barrell in MIssouri and I wasn't too fond of them. I think that if I had to eat them to survive I would:)

I think they are not bad. I've only had them a few times ever.
