June 21; The Narrows...

Last week I went with a group of friends to Southern Utah to hike around Zion National Park. We left Wednesday evening and drove to Cedar City where we stayed at a friend's sister-in-law's house (thanks, LaCee!). A good portion of the trip consisted of Jason falling asleep in the back while I played "Name That Tune" with Cameron (thanks to his MP3 player, which is loaded with tons of excellent music!). No humming was involved. :) The next morning (I'm talking after less than 4 hours of sleep), we were up at the crack of dawn so we could drive to ZION NP and hike the Narrows. Tracie, Jason and Cameron were in my car. We started out early enough that we had to grab a bite to eat on our way. I was driving, and I guess all our minds were on food because we missed the ZNP turn-off and headed for Hurricane UT to purchase greasy breakfast sandwiches (compliments of Burger King). Tracie noticed our error when she looked in my atlas and we finally found our way to the rest of our group (Brooke, Lisa and Jeff); they beat us there by about 30 minutes (WOOPS!). We hopped on the shuttle and rode it to the top and then we started our hike...

So beautiful!

I love the contrast of the red rock and the greenery...

Where's Waldo?

We hiked until about 1:30pm, when we figured it'd be best to turn around and head back. But right around that time, we found a large boulder in deeper water. We were getting rather hot and decided the best thing to do was cannon balls into the water. We look like pros, don'tcha think?

Cameron went first, simply because I was too chicken...

But I jumped in right after I saw it was safe. :)

Here's Brookey...

And Lisa...

Here's one of everybody before heading back:

I'm not about to lie to you; after a late night with hardly any sleep, I felt like the walking dead as I finished the hike. Now that's not to say that it wasn't well worth it; I wish we could've kept hiking! However...we had a schedule to keep. (This happens when you travel with Lisa). We hiked back to where we came from and took the shuttle back to our cars and then drove to St. George to play with Janell! We went to her place in Washington, UT and cleaned up nicely, porked out on pizza, and headed to the Tuacahn Theater to see a great production of My Fair Lady. PS I can't forget that we met up with our cute little Melissa friend from Vegas!!! Now, let me mention that the Tuacahn is an outdoor theater, and St. George was hot! The show ended just before midnight and temperature was somewhere up in the 90s. ICK. But overall, an incredible day! We drove back to Janell's to sleep before our next adventure. OH YES...and before I forget, I need to let you know that only a few of these photos are mine; the rest are from the wonderful collection of Jason Schulthess!
